The Pitt gymnastics team travels to North Carolina for a Friday night meet against the Tar Heels in their Pink Meet benefitting the continuing care of breast cancer survivors. The meet against the Panthers’ East Atlantic Gymnastics League rival is set to begin at 7 p.m.
“I consider this our first ‘ACC’ match even though we have traditionally met the ACC schools in regular season and at the EAGL Championship for years,” said head coach Debbie Yohman. “And even though the ACC isn’t officially sponsoring gymnastics, we still meet all three of the ACC teams home and away this year so we WILL end up with a regular season champion of sorts! And just to match the excitement of all of the other teams at Pitt, I know the gymnasts are looking forward to it.
“Yet another close one (meet) will be coming our way,” continued Yohman. “We’ve been right in there with North Carolina and have gone back and forth with them for the W. We’ve got to bring the focus and desire to compete big and then be able to follow through. We’re looking for another win but just as importantly a boost in our team score, and I think we’re ready to take that jump.”
Pitt enters the meet with an unblemished record of 3-0 overall and 2-0 in EAGL action. North Carolina sits at 3-2 overall and 3-1 in EAGL, though the Tar Heels are averaging a slightly higher team score average of 193.775 (34th nationally) to Pitt’s 193.475 (36th nationally).
