PITTSBURGH - For the second consecutive week, freshman gymnast Haley Bodenheimer has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League's Rookie of the Week.
Bodenheimer won the award last week as well for her performance against No. 11 Ohio State, and this week for her efforts in Pitt's quad meet win over George Washington, Rutgers and William & Mary.
Bodenheimer (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) recorded a career-high in the all-around (39.025), as well as on the vault (9.775) and the beam (9.825). Bodenheimer took the top spot on the beam in the four-team meet, and finished second in the all-around by just 0.05 of a point.
Additionally, the freshman finished fifth on the vault with the third best score in the meet, was ninth on the uneven bars with the fifth best score (9.675) and finished third on the floor with a 9.800. This season, Bodenheimer has not scored lower than a 9.800 on the floor.
Currently, Bodenheimer is ranked first in the EAGL on the floor with an average score of 9.833 and is ranked third in the Northeast Region. In the all-around, she sits at seven in the region with a 38.900 average.
In addition to Bodenheimer's honor, Pitt freshman Brittany Marcsisin was named the Panther Gymnast of the Week for her efforts on the vault. Marcsisin competed on the vault and scored a 9.600 for the Panthers. She also introduced a new vault with a start value of 10.0 in the exhibition spot and proved successful, as she will transition that vault into Pitt's lineup.
Pitt returns to action on Saturday on the road at Michigan State at 7 p.m. The Panthers return home for a 1 p.m. matchup with Bowling Green on Feb. 18 at Fitzgerald Field House.
