For the third time this season, Pitt has earned an East Atlantic Gymnastics League Rookie of the Week honor as freshman Haley Sedgewick was recognized Tuesday by the league.
"What a great honor for another member of our freshman class," said head coach Debbie Yohman. "Haley's efforts are often under the radar but she is just a solid, solid performer both in the gym and on the competitive floor. She doesn't often make mistakes, but when she does she follows up by making great corrections every time. She is just one of those consistent workers that you trust and depend upon to get the job done."
Sedgewick (Lennon, Mich./Powers Catholic) took first in the all-around on Saturday in Pitt's win over Bowling Green with a career-high score of 38.650. On her individual events, she also scored a career-high 9.80 on the floor exercise and a 9.725 on the balance beam. Rounding out the day, Sedgewick scored a 9.650 on the vault and a 9.475 on the uneven bars.
Sedgewick's 9.80 on the floor tied her for first place on the event, while placing third on the beam with the second-best individual score, seventh on the vault (third-best score) and ninth on the bars (eighth-best score).
Pitt's other two EAGL Rookie of the Week honors were received by freshman Haley Bodenheimer, who won the award on both Jan. 31 and on Feb. 7.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. when they travel to Kentucky for a tri-meet with the Wildcats and the Auburn Tigers.
