PITTSBURGH - Pitt freshman Lindsay Offutt has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League's Rookie of the Week for her performance at Maryland last weekend in a quad meet.
"Yay for Lindsay!," said head coach Debbie Yohman. "After some `oops' on the beam the weeks prior, she nailed her beam set at Maryland. She also had a great floor and good bars routine. She just trains consistently day in and day out and then brings it on the weekend. You don't expect to see her miss! What you do expect is to see her among the team leaders on floor and beam every week."
Offutt marks the first Panther honored this year by the EAGL in their weekly awards. The White Lake, Mich., native scored the best score of her collegiate career on the balance beam with a 9.90, which took second overall in the meet and led all Pitt scorers.
Additionally, Offutt scored the fourth-best mark on the floor exercise with a 9.825. She averages a 9.855 on the event this season, which ranks her second in the league. Her night was rounded out with an uneven bars performance in which she scored a 9.60.
Offutt started off her collegiate career on a high against West Virginia, winning the all-around title with a 38.775.
Offutt and Pitt will host North Carolina on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House for their annual Think Pink meet in which the Panthers raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
