Pitt sophomore Lindsay Offutt has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League’s Specialist of the Week for her efforts last weekend against N.C. State.
“Well deserved! Lindsay is so dependable on her three events, as has been Katie (O’Rourke) on beam and floor,” said head coach Debbie Yohman. “It’s nice to have such high-level consistency. And they should be recognized! It’s even more amazing when you consider we weren’t sure if we were going to have Lindsay in the line-up this season! She had a severe stress fracture in her shin last season and had a rod put in in September. She’s been good as gold ever since, and we are so thankful!”
Offutt helped lead Pitt to its highest team score of the season with a 195.050, as well as second place all time with a 49.100 team mark on the beam. Her individual scores included a career-high 9.90 on the balance beam to claim the event title, a season-best score on the uneven bars (9.675) and a 9.825 on the floor exercise.
The sophomore has now won seven event titles this season either on beam or floor. Her 9.90 floor performance against the Wolfpack sits her at No. 5 all-time with the third-best score in Pitt history. Additionally, her performances this season on the bars have been especially gutsy as she has been asked to step into the lineup due to other injuries within the squad.
The honor marks Pitt's third Specialist of the Week award as senior Katie O'Rourke was honored twice this season.
Pitt travels to N.C. State on Friday for a quad meet with the Wolfpack, Maryland and William & Mary, slated to begin at 7 p.m.
