For the second week in a row, Pitt freshman Lindsay Offutt was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League's Rookie of the Week, while junior Katie O'Rourke earned Specialist of the Week honors for their efforts in the win over North Carolina last weekend.
"I'm so proud of Lindsay and Katie and happy that they are being recognized for their hard work," head coach Debbie Yohman. "But they are pretty much representative of our entire squad this year. We don't have a lot of superstars, just a lot of tough blue collar workers. The scoring is spread around throughout the squad, and the events, and often our individuals get lost in the recognition process, which is a nice problem to have! On any given day, several of them can rise to the top."
Offutt scored the second-highest mark on the floor exercise in school history when she earned the event title with a 9.950. Additionally, she scored a 9.725 on bars and a 9.725 on beam which were each the fifth-best scores of the night.
O'Rourke took second on both of her events, including a career-best tying score of 9.850 on the beam. She also scored a 9.90 on the floor, which gives her at least a 9.90 on the event in two of the last three weeks of competition.
In addition to their success, freshman Lisa Soto was exceptional and was nominated for Gymnast of the Week honors as she earned the vault (9.875) and bars (9.825) titles in the meet and scored the fifth-highest score on the beam (9.80). All of Soto's three scores were career highs for the rookie.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season with two remaining home meets with Michigan State on March 8 and Auburn on March 16.
