Pitt gymnastics, who is coming off its best team score this season, will host Michigan State on Friday at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House for Youth Night.
“This weekend will be another close and exciting competition against a competitive opponent,” head coach Debbie Yohman said. Our lineups are pretty solid and our skills are on auto-pilot. Our goals for the last two meets before EAGL Championships are to pay attention to detail, go after the tenths and half-tenths and to score out as high as possible. Competing against Michigan State is always fun and of course, with so many Pennsylvania and Michigan gymnasts on both teams, it’s also for bragging rights next year!”
Pitt and Michigan State are frequent competitors as the teams have met in each of the last 10 seasons. Last year, the Spartans won the battle, 193.875-193.475.
Last weekend, Pitt scored a 196.175 against North Carolina, which marked the program’s third-highest team score in school history and the best since the 2004 season. Additionally, freshman Lindsay Offutt was named the EAGL Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week and Katie O’Rourke earned Specialist of the Week honors.
Pitt rounds out the regular season with home meets against Michigan State Friday night at 7 p.m. and Auburn on March 16.
