PITTSBURGH--Seven University of Pittsburgh gymnasts were named by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) to the 2008 EAGL All-Academic Team, it was announced today by the league's sports information office.
In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in the two previous semesters or a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen are also eligible, if they earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
Senior Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) was honored for the fourth straight time, making her one of only 14 gymnasts from the total of 87 to have accomplished the feat.
Pitt also had a trio of two-time honorees as sophomore Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest), junior Andrea Konesky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) and sophomore Sarah Thompson (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) were all named to the team for the second time.
The other honorees included Kaitlin Harrison (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial), Nicole Kujawski (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and Krista Rubini (Newton, Pa./Council Rock North).
