PITTSBURGH - Sophomore gymnast Laura Kummerle has been named as the East Atlantic Gymnastics League's Co-Specialist of the Week for her effort last week in a tri-meet win over No. 25 Kent State and Centenary.
Kummerle recorded a career high on the balance beam with a 9.875 and claimed the event title on Saturday night at Pitt's final home meet of the season. The Panthers scored their fourth-highest team score in school history with a 196.125.
"Talk about a comeback," said head coach Debbie Yohman. "Not only did Laura's beam performance earn her career high score, it came a week after the only bad beam routine of her career - she ALWAYS stays on!! So it came in a very high pressure situation, in a very close meet, and she came through for the team as well as for herself."
The Panthers travel to Durham, N.H., for the EAGL Championship meet on Saturday at 2 p.m.
