Pitt junior all-arounder Alyssa Adrian returns to the squad in 2012 after qualifying for NCAA Regionals last season on the uneven bars. Alyssa is a 2011 All-EAGL second team member and is a NACGC/W All-American scholar athlete.
WOW! That’s the best way I know how to describe our first four-event intersquad of the season! Spirits are high and we are ready to make history this year!
Outstanding athlete Bo Jackson once said, “Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.” It is clear; everyone is working incredibly hard together and making a commendable effort to reach one of our biggest team goals of becoming 2012 EAGL Champions. We won’t stop until we get there!
With five girls from our team of 14 being newbies, we knew they would have a tremendous impact on the dynamics of our team and they have done precisely that. They have brought big skills, fresh routines and a positive presence to the gym. The new year has begun!
We started off the intersquad on vault. The lineup was rock SOLID and ended up being our strongest event of the day! Sophomore Brit Harris amazes us all with her powerful sky-high vault, setting the tone for the rest of the day. The energy from the vault squad was carried over to the bars highlighted by a huge routine from Amy Varela, swinging big and nailing her dismount. After an inspiring bar lineup we moved on to beam. Senior Alicia Talucci was on fire all day! Her flawless consistency is intriguing to watch. The whole beam squad was incredibly aggressive and confident, which is something we have been focusing on all preseason. In addition, we have depth with other girls prepared to step right into the beam lineup. We were all pumped to move to our final event and finish out strong. Freshman Haley Bodenheimer finished the day off with a clean and sharp executed routine. This year’s floor squad has a refreshing new look with a variety of beautiful choreography. These routines are captivating!
It was a great finish to our first full intersquad! For so early in the season, it is AMAZING to see how the team is coming together. I am so excited to see what the next few months will bring considering it is only November! We are setting the bar high this year! Preseason is the time to set the precedent that will carry with us throughout the season.
Our team has the talent, potential, commitment and enthusiasm to take us to a new level. All I’m going to say is… we are getting hungry, so watch out Panther Fans! Get ready for a fantastic season! Can’t wait to see y’all out there in the stands because we love the energy of a big rowdy crowd.
Our next step in the season is our Gobble No Wobble intersquad next Monday at Trees Hall. Competition starts at 3. See y’all there!
New Team, New Year!
