Stefanie Golan enters her first year as an assistant women's soccer coach at the University of Pittsburgh. A Duke graduate, Golan played under Pitt head coach, Sue-Moy Chin, who was an assistant coach with the Blue Devils.
"I was immediately impressed by her knowledge of the game, work ethic and personality," Chin said of Golan, "Stefanie has grown into a great coach. She will complement our staff tremendously. I couldn't be more pleased to have Stef join our Pitt family."
Golan arrives at Pitt after serving two years as the assistant women's soccer coach at the University of Evansville from 2003-04,where she enjoyed two successful seasons and an accomplished recruiting class. In 2005, her recruits led Evansville to its first winning season since 2001. During that year, the Purple Aces recorded their best non-conference record in the history of the program. Her recruits received numerous honors, including the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year award, one First Team all-conference selection, one Second Team all-conference honor, two All-Freshman team honors and two MVC All-Tournament Team recipients.
Prior to her Evansville coaching tenure, Golan served as graduate assistant coach for one season at Mercer University in 2002. Her first recruiting class at Mercer helped lead the program to a four-win improvement over the previous season.
In 2001, Golan earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science from Duke. She battled a chronic ankle injury, undergoing four surgeries while at Duke. From 1997-2001, she was a starting defender for the Blue Devils. In 1998 she was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week, and in 2000 was named an ACC All-Tournament Team selection.
Golan's soccer career began in St.Louis, Mo. as a member of the Busch and JB Marine Soccer Clubs. As a player at the youth and amateur levels, Golan won multiple state, regional and national championships. Golan was also named defensive most valuable player for the team in each of those titles. While in highschool, Golan anchored a defense that totaled 22 shutouts and allowed only 10 goals over the entire season. Her team captured a state championship and finished with a 27-1-1 record.
