YPSILANTI, Mich.--Fueled by Morgan Sharick's first collegiate goal in the 69th minute, Pitt opened its 17th women's soccer season with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Eastern Michigan Friday evening at Scicluna Field.

The match marked Pitt's first regular season game and victory under first-year head coach Greg Miller. Pitt is next in action on Sunday, August 19 when it plays at Michigan. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. ET in Ann Arbor.

A junior, Pitt's Sharick netted the game winning tally at the 68:39 mark following assists from sophomore Jackie Poucel and freshman Roosa Arvas. The Panthers needed to battle back from a 1-0 first half deficit.

Eastern Michigan (0-1-0) took an early 1-0 lead in the game's sixth minute when Angela Vultaggio flicked a cross over the head of leaping Pitt goalkeeper Nicole D'Agostino and into the net. Vultaggio, who took the shot from 18 yards out, received a pass from Bianca Rossi.

Pitt quickly battled back with four shots and three corner kick opportunities over the game's next 10 minutes. The Panthers evened the score at 1-1 in the 34th minute when sophomore transfer Riliegh McHugh registered her first collegiate goal on an assist from junior Danielle Benner. McHugh's shot came from the right side of the penalty box and rolled past EMU goalkeeper Jenna O'Dell into the lower left corner of the net.

Pitt (1-0-0) controlled play with its pressure defense in the second half, outshooting Eastern Michigan 11-3 and forcing EMU goalkeeper Jenna O'Dell into seven second half saves.

For the game, Pitt outshot Eastern Michigan 19-6, firing 13 shots on goal and finishing with five corner kicks to the Eagles' three. Led by senior Ashley Cuba's five shots, 13 Panthers took shots in the match. Nineteen Panthers played in at least 12 minutes of the contest.

O'Dell concluded the game with 11 saves. Pitt goalkeeper Nicole D'Agostino played the full 90 minutes and made two saves in earning the win.
