Women's Soccer Defeats Oakland 3-0 Behind Freshman Dana DelleFemine's Two Goals

PITTSBURGH--The Pitt women's soccer team won its second game of the season, Sunday, defeating Oakland 3-0 at Founders Field. The Panthers improved to (2-2) and were led by freshman Dana DelleFemine, who scored her first two career goals.

 

Forward Laura Berbert added the other goal for the Panthers and Morie Kephart made two saves to earn the shutout.

 

The Panthers dominated on offense, outshooting Oakland 21-3. Pitt had eight shots on goal while Oakland registered only two.

                          


 

 

The Panthers opened up the scoring in the 16th minute when DelleFemine connected on a pass from Katelyn Ruhe at the top of the box.

 

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead at half-time and came out firing in the second half.

 

In the 71st minute, the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick after forward Alexandra Jaffe was held up in the box. Berbert was selected to take the PK and buried it in the left corner to give Pitt a 2-0 lead.

 

DelleFemine scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute after Ruhe split the Oakland defense with a perfect lead pass. DelleFemine beat Oakland goalkeeper Shannon Coley to put the Panthers up 3-0.

 

Ruhe finished with two assists and seniors Liz Carroll and Jaffe each added one.

 

The Panthers hit the road for the next two games, taking on North Carolina State on September 3rd and Charlotte on September 5th.
