PITTSBURGH-The women's soccer team managed just six shots in a 3-1 loss to host UNC-Greensboro in the adidas/Spartan Classic on Sunday.

The Panthers opened the two-game tournament with a 3-2 victory over Western Carolina on Friday, but fell behind early against the Spartans and could not overcome an early 2-0 deficit.

UNC-Greensboro scored 19:50 into the game when Jaime Ableman got control of a rebound off the crossbar and put the ball past Panther goalkeeper Gretchen Ross. Before the first half ended, the Spartans tallied again on a penalty kick goal by Lynsey McLean at the 39:33 mark.

Annette Agredano (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson High Magnet) cut the Spartan lead in half with 20:29 left in the game when she beat Spartan goalkeeper Kathryn Clewley to the ball and put it in the back of the net. The ball was sent in behind the UNC-Greensboro defense by Emily Tipton (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain). Tipton picked up an assist on the scoring play, the second assist and point of her career.

The Spartans scored again at the 75:16 mark to make it a two-goal game again when Kate Dylag received a crossing pass from Rakel Logadottir and beat Ross.

Ross (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) started her fourth consecutive game in net for the Panthers and is 2-2 on the season.

Pittsburgh will return home to face St. John's on Friday at Founders Field. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
