TAMPA, Fla.--The Pitt women's soccer team registered its second shutout of the year as it tied USF 0-0 in double overtime Sunday at Corbett Soccer Stadium. With the tie, Pitt is now 5-5-1 on the year and 0-1-1 in Big East play, while USF moves to 4-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Big East.

The tie gave Pitt its first point in the Big East standings. USF entered the year picked to finish third in the Big East American Division and was playing its first game in a week, while Pitt entertained No. 24 Marquette on Thursday.

Defensively, the Panthers limited USF to only six shots on goal.

"We found a way to get a point today," Pitt head coach Greg Miller said. "We gutted it out. Our backline and goalkeeper Nicole D'Agostino kept us in the game. Once again, our backline came up big and did a nice job of keeping the game in front of them and forcing USF to take long shots. Morgan Sharick, Alyssa Meier and Abby Baldys did a great job of putting out fires. Jackie Poucel had been sick all week and Olivia Horner did a great job off the bench today. Nicole made some nice saves in the first half. We have to do a better job of pressuring the ball and defending better in the midfield."

"Credit USF. They played more physical, read the game better and intercepted passes. USF deserved to win the game. We were fortunate to get the tie."

USF outshot Pitt 21-1 in the match. The Bulls fired eight shots in the first half and 10 in the second half. Pitt's lone shot came in the second overtime period when Lauren Yobbi's header sailed wide. Pitt also had another opportunity on a set piece in the first overtime period.

"We didn't have any offensive threat today," Miller said. "It was just one of those days. Once again, we didn't do a very good job of maintaining possession. In overtime, we challenged our team to play more forward to try to manufacture a goal, trying to get a set piece or corner kick and we had some opportunities."

The Panthers picked up their second shutout of the year. Pitt also blanked Liberty 1-0 on Sept. 7. D'Agostino earned her second shutout of the year while playing the full 110 minutes. She finished the day with six saves.

Next weekend, Pitt hits the road for two more Big East matches when it faces Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 21 (7:30 p.m.), then travels to DePaul for a Sunday, Sept. 23 match (1 p.m.).
