BOULDER, Colo.-- The Pitt women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Colorado Sunday at Pentup Field. The Panthers fall to 2-4-1 overall and the Buffaloes improve to 3-3-1 overall.
Pitt goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi kept the Panthers alive during the first half, recording four of her eight saves. Once again Pelusi, 2004 Big East Goalkeeper of the Year, had a solid game stopping numerous shots with a lot of force behind them. Pelusi made numerous diving saves intercepting crosses off the feet of Colorado players and stopping the ball before it could reach the intended target. Pelusi kept the game scoreless in the first half of competition.
The clock wound down and with less than seven minutes remaining in the second half Colorado freshman Nikki Keller managed a shot past Pelusi on the ground towards the right post. The ball appeared to be going wide of the goal, but the spin on the ball directed it into the net past the out-stretched hands of Pelusi. Colorado's lone goal was in the 83rd minute of the game.
The Panthers had a few scoring opportunities during the first half of the game. Jennifer Kritch had a shot blocked by a Colorado defender which went over the end line giving the Panthers a corner kick. Kritch took the corner kick and Corina Sebesta headed the ball towards the goal but Colorado goalkeeper Jessica Keller made the save.
The Panthers were defeated on Friday by Denver, who went on to claim the title of the fourth annual Colorado Soccer Classic.
The Panthers continue play on Friday, September 23rd when they take on St. John's in Jamaica, NY.
