INDIANOLA, Pa-- Pitt women's soccer competed against the Syracuse Orange Sunday ending in a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of play.  The double overtime game moves Pitt to 1-1-1 in the Big East and 2-5-2 overall. Syracuse is now to 1-0-2 in the Big East and 2-5-3 overall.

Pitt's first good scoring chance came in the 24th minute of play when Jacqueline Reuter was awarded a free kick after a Syracuse penalty. Corina Sebesta got her head on the ball but it soared over the top of the net. Sebesta had another chance with seven minutes remaining in the first half, firing a powerful shot towards the goal but the shot went over the goal.

The Panthers and the Orange battled through 110 minutes of a physical game. Numerous direct and indirect kicks were awarded after tempers flared and fouls were committed.

Carli Brill and the rest of the Panther defense again remained uncompromising, proving to be a consistent solid line in front of goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi. Pelusi faced multiple free kicks and recorded seven saves in the game.

"Our backs played great as usual. They are really a constant for us," head coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "I was really pleased with our shots on goal in overtime, we had a couple really good chances. We need to be able to play with that intensity during the entire game, not just when it is in overtime. We are really getting there and today we were able to get a more creative attack going. The game was not as physical as the box score shows. Meta had some great chances in overtime and really stepped it up."

Immediately into the beginning of the first golden-goal overtime period Sara Gutting and Kristina Francois combined passes in front of the net. Francois got off a hard shot but Syracuse goalkeeper Emily Kowalczyk made the save. Meta Haley got a shot off during the second overtime period but was not able to get the Panthers on the board.

The Panthers continue play at Founders Field on Friday, September 30th. The game will kick off at 7 p.m.
