JAMAICA, N.Y.-- The Pitt women's soccer dropped a 4-1 decision to Big East opponent St. John's Sunday afternoon in New York. The loss puts the Panthers at 6-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Big East play while St. John's improves to 7-1-2 overall and 2-1-0 in the Big East.
The Red Storm scored three of their four goals within the first 22 minutes of the game. Kelly McConnell, Tara Mendoza and Krystle Jalalian scored for St. John's in the sixth, 20th and 22nd minutes, respectively.
Laura Berbert (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) scored Pitt's lone goal in the 62nd minute off a free kick.
Pitt's defense fought hard to prevent the Red Storm from scoring again after Berbert's goal, however in the 77th minute, St. John's Nicole Canning shot the ball into the right side of the net for the game's final score of 4-1.
The Panthers will host two Big East teams this weekend at Founders Field when they take on Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. and Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.
