INDIANOLA, Pa. - The Pitt women's soccer team was handed a 2-0 loss by No. 9 Marquette Sunday afternoon at Founders Field. The Panthers are now 2-8-3 overall and 1-4-2 in the Big East. Marquette improves to 12-2-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the Big East.

At the 18-minute mark, Marquette got on the board when Sarah Uyenishi scored for the Golden Eagles. Lauren Weber passed the ball to Meghan Connelly who flicked the ball on to Uyenishi to put Marquette up 1-0.

In the 25th minute, Corina Sebesta fired a rocket shot on goal but Marquette goalkeeper Laura Boyer was able to make the save. Sebesta recoded three shots on the day, increasing her season shots total to 32.

Four minutes into the second half, Marquette increased their lead to 2-0 when Christy Zwolski scored off a pass from Lauren Weber.

"Marquette is a very good team," Pitt head coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "In the first half we gave them too much space and when you give a team of that caliber too much space they are going to capitalize. We played better in the second half and put more pressure on them. We played well and worked hard. I hope to carry the positive things from the second half of the game into our games next weekend."

Carli Brill and Aimee Romasco teamed up to mount a threatening attack in the 54th minute but could not come up with the goal.

Pitt goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi faced 14 shots and notched nine saves on the day.

The Panthers will face the Hoyas on Friday, October 14th when they travel to Georgetown.
