PITTSBURGH-With just 10 seconds remaining, West Virginia's Katie Barnes scored to defeat the Panthers' women's soccer team, 1-0, and ended any possibility of Pittsburgh qualifying for the Big East postseason tournament.

The goal by Barnes kept the Mountaineers a perfect 4-0 at home and sent the Panthers to their third consecutive loss, all shutouts.

The defeat gives the Panthers a final record of 2-4 in the Big East's Mid-Atlantic Division and a 4-6-1 overall mark. Notre Dame, Rutgers, West Virginia and Villanova will finish above the Panthers in the standings as only the top four from each of the conference's two divisions make the quarterfinals.

Panther goalkeeper Rachel Brown (Burnley, England/St. Christopher's/Alabama) made eight saves, including three diving stops to keep the Mountaineers off the board until the closing seconds. West Virginia head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown was impressed with Brown.

"Brown kept them in the game. She's one of the best around and saved at least three goals this game," Izzo-Brown said.

West Virginia outshot Pittsburgh by a 30-9 margin, with Barnes and Laura Kane leading the way with 8 and 7 attempts, respectively. Annette Agredano (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson High Magnet) led the way for the Panthers with three shots on goal and has a team-high 26 shots for the season.

The Panthers will travel to face Miami on Sat., Oct. 13 and will return home to face St. Francis (Pa.) on Oct. 16. The St. Francis contest is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at Founders Field in Indianola, Pa.
