WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Pitt women's soccer notches its second Big East win of the season at North Kehoe Field Friday night against the Georgetown Hoyas. The Panthers defeated the Hoyas 2-1 improving their record in the Big East to 2-4-2 and 3-8-3 overall. Georgetown moves to 4-3-1 in the Big East and 11-4-1 overall.

Georgetown senior forward Shara McNeill registered the lone goal for the Hoyas at the 13 minute mark. McNeill scored on a breakaway, dribbling past Pitt defenders and tipping the ball past Pitt goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi. McNeill's unassisted goal put the Hoyas up 1-0.

"This is a very important win for us," head coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "We started out a little slow, giving them too much space but made some adjustments and got much better pressure in the second half. Tina Francois had a great game-winning goal and an assist. Erica Wright also had a great second half. Jamie had some big saves in the game to keep us in it but overall it was a great team effort."

Pitt made some adjustments and came out strong in the second half. The Panthers controlled the tempo of play and orchestrated productive offensive attacks during the second half. Jennifer Kritch evened up the score in the 78th minute. Kristina Francois fed the ball to Kritch who was able to gather the pass inside the six yard box and find the back of the net past Georgetown goalkeeper Jade Higgins.

Less than seven minutes later Francois scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers as she skillfully maneuvered the ball in front of the net and put the Panthers up 2-1. Lisa Shulte recorded the assist.

Pitt goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi recorded 14 saves on the night, making outstanding saves that kept the Panthers in the game.

Pitt continues its Big East play when it takes on Villanova on Sunday, October 16th.
