PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- The Pitt women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Big East opponent Providence Sunday afternoon in Rhode Island. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 6-8-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the Big East while the Friars improved to 3-10-1 overall and 2-5-0.

 

Pitt scored its first goal off of a penalty kick made by Ashley Habbel (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) in the ninth minute of the game, putting the Panthers up 1-0.

 

Habbel's goal now gives her a total of 26 career points, needing just three more to make the list. She has recorded 11 goals and four assists throughout her career as a Panther.

 


 

 

The Friars responded late in the first half when Tara Ricciardi scored in the lower right corner of Pitt's goal, putting the score at 1-1 for halftime.

 

Providence's final goal came from a Pitt defender who deflected the ball into the Panthers net, giving the final score of 2-1.

 

This weekend, Pitt will travel to Villanova for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Wildcats on Oct. 19, before heading to its last regular season road game at Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 21 for a 1 p.m. contest.
