PITTSBURGH--The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer program signed 12 student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Greg Miller announced on Wednesday.

Representing three countries (United States, Canada, Finland) and six states (3-California, 2-Pennsylvania, 1-Tennessee, 1-Wisconsin, 1-Massachusetts, 1-New Jersey, 1-North Carolina), all 12 members of the 2013 Pitt women's soccer recruiting class will enroll at Pitt this summer with winning backgrounds. Two compete for their respective country's national team, five won national titles of some kind and all 12 captured state titles at various levels. Six are multi-sport athletes, nine are four-year varsity soccer letterwinners and all 12 have served as team captains of their respective soccer squads.

"In building this 2013 class, we had several challenges to meet," Miller said. "Because we arrived here last January, we had a late start in the recruiting process for this group. Many of the nation's better players had already committed to schools by this point, so we knew we had to work much harder to attract the right players who would be able to compete in the ACC. Specifically, we had to address issues in each of our lines to add athleticism, talent and depth.

"Credit our staff not only for identifying, but also securing what we feel is a solid foundation as we transition to the ACC. They bring a wealth of championship and high level playing experience. These young women are very hard working and competitive who will succeed both on the field and in the classroom. We couldn't more proud to announce these 12 players as our first official recruiting class."

Pitt will enter the Atlantic Coast Conference next season. The ACC is generally considered the nation's top women's college soccer conference. Seven ACC teams finished the 2012 season ranked among the NSCAA's top-25, including national champion North Carolina (1), Florida State (4), Duke (8), Virginia (10), Notre Dame (13), Wake Forest (15) and Maryland (16).

In addition to the 12 signees, Pitt returns 12 letterwinners from a squad that finished with a 7-10-2 overall record in Miller's first year as head coach in 2012.

Following is a roster and biographical sketches on each of the 12 signees.
