PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer program has earned several academic awards from various organizations.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recently recognized the Pitt women’s soccer team with its prestigious team academic award. For a team to be considered for the NSCAA Team Academic Award, it must have a composite team grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for all team members who appear on the official roster. Pitt’s team grade point average was a cumulative 3.12. Pitt was one of 11 ACC programs honored with the award.
In addition, two Pitt players were honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference on its women’s soccer all-academic team: seniors Katelyn Lippert and Caroline Keefer. Those two student-athletes mark the first two All-ACC Academic team members in school history. Last year, 13 Pitt women’s soccer players earned All-Big East Academic honors.
Pitt recently announced its 2014 spring schedule which includes four matches at Ambrose Urbanic Field, a road trip to Penn State and a doubleheader against Atlantic Coast Conference foes Virginia Tech (2013 Final Four participant) and North Carolina (2013 NCAA Tournament participant). Pitt concludes its spring by welcoming back its alumni for a scrimmage on Saturday, April 19 at Petersen Sports Complex. Participating alumni players will be announced at a later date.
The 2014 fall season will be Miller’s third as Pitt’s head coach. Miller welcomes a 12-member recruiting class that was ranked No. 14 nationally by BigSoccer.com. Also the Panthers welcome back 19 letterwinners from their youthful 2013 team.
