PITTSBURGH--Eleven home contests, eight matches against teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament and six matches against squads that finished the 2013 season ranked among the nation's top-25 highlight the 2014 University of Pittsburgh women's soccer schedule, Pitt women's soccer coach Greg Miller announced on Tuesday.
"I really like our 2014 schedule. We will have eleven home matches this year which hopefully proves beneficial to our really young team," Miller said. "We have a great mix of competitive opponents this year in our non-conference schedule where we'll see a variety of styles. We hope this will help prepare us for a rigorous ACC schedule. The Atlantic Coast Conference has proved itself to be the nation's top women's soccer conference and the league will be outstanding once again this year."
In 2014, Pitt will play 10 ACC regular season games and eight non-conference matches. Pitt opens its season against Akron on Friday, August 22 at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Panthers begin ACC regular season play on Friday, Sept. 19 when they host Duke.
Home games to be played at Ambrose-Urbanic Field include Akron (Aug. 22), Duquesne (Aug. 24), Robert Morris (Aug. 27), Washington (Aug. 31), Virginia Commonwealth (Sept. 12), Duke (Sept. 19), Notre Dame (Oct. 9), Florida State (Oct. 18), Louisville (Oct. 23) and Clemson (Oct. 26).

Pitt will host its first-ever Steel City Classic from August 22-24, a four-team, four-match event at Ambrose Urbanic Field that will feature Pitt, Akron, Duquesne and Robert Morris. The following weekend, Pitt will travel to Philadelphia for two matches against Villanova (Sept. 5) and 2013 NCAA Tournament participant LaSalle (Sept. 7).
The Panthers begin their competition schedule with two exhibition matches at William & Mary (Aug. 12) and Central Michigan (Aug. 16).
Pitt players will report back to campus this summer to begin preparation for the 2014 regular season. The team reports for preseason workouts on Tuesday, Aug. 5th, while NCAA mandated practices begin on Wednesday, Aug. 6th. The 2014 season will be Miller's third as Pitt's head coach. Pitt returns six starters, 12 letterwinners, two players who earned medical hardships and add a 12-member recruiting class.
