PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Pitt freshman midfielder Roosa Arvas was named the Big East Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week by the Big East Conference on Monday.
Arvas earned the award after she played a role in six of Pitt’s seven goals on the week, finishing with one goal and five assists in Pitt’s 3-0 undefeated week. In addition, she provided the game-winning goal and two assists in Pitt’s 3-1 Sunday victory over Duquesne. She added two assists in Friday’s 2-1 win at St. Bonaventure.
Arvas becomes Pitt’s third all-time Big East Rookie of the Week selection, following former Panthers women’s soccer players Netta Agredano (Sept. 25, 2000) and Cande Ruiz (Oct. 5, 1998).
“I’m really proud of Roosa’s contributions through five games,” Miller said. “Only five games into a completely different style of play for her and already she’s found a way to put her stamp on the game with her soccer sense and ability to place the ball where we need it on set pieces.”
In addition, the midfielder was also selected as the College Sports Madness Women’s Soccer Big East Player of the Week. That information is listed here.
Through five games this season, Arvas has either scored or assisted on seven of Pitt’s nine goals. For the year, she has one goal and six assists and currently leads the Panthers in points with eight.
With its three consecutive wins on the week, Pitt improved to 4-1-0, its best start to a season in three years.
