PITTSBURGH--The Pitt women's soccer team will play its second game of the 2013 season as it travels to No. 23 Ohio State for a Wednesday, August 28 match at 7 p.m. ET. Ohio State will be the first of eight nationally ranked opponents on Pitt's schedule.
The match will also be a homecoming for second-year Pitt head coach Greg Miller, who spent 11 years in Columbus as Ohio State's Associate Head Coach. The two programs scrimmaged in Pittsburgh earlier this spring.
"It's a short turnaround to get ready for a very good Ohio State team," Miller said. "Ohio State is a team I know very well, having recruited many of those kids. They are a good side and will be a good contest for us. It will help prepare us for what we'll see when we begin Atlantic Coast Conference play in a few weeks. Then we have to get ready for Bucknell on Friday for our home opener."
Pitt enters its week with a 1-0-0 record following a 1-0 win at Duquesne on Sunday. Sophomore Roosa Arvas provided the game-winning goal. Ohio State enters the match with a 2-0-0 record following home wins over Morehead State (3-2) and Eastern Michigan (2-1 in overtime).
Next Friday, Pitt opens its home schedule against Bucknell on Aug. 30. Pitt's first Atlantic Coast Conference game will be against Boston College on Thursday, Sept. 12. Pitt's 2013 women's soccer schedule also includes nine home games at Ambrose Urbanic Field and 11 matches which will be played in the Pittsburgh area.
