Women's Soccer Falls to Hofstra 2-0

The Panthers open Big East play Friday at Georgetown.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team loses a physical contest to Hofstra University 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Panthers fall to 2-4-1. The Pride advances to 6-1-0.
Hofstra scored its first goal of the game when senior Marisa Pistone scored off of a corner kick in the 10th minute of the contest. Sophomore Ashley Shaban scored in the 50th minute when she took a pass from Nina Nanavrakis and Dolores Deasley. Nanavrakis got the ball near the left end line and sent a cross to Deasley. Deasley flicked the ball to Shaban for the score.
Kristina Francois (Springfield, Va./Paul VI) set up a Pittsburgh scoring opportunity when she got a loose ball from 25-yards and booted a shot that was barely stopped by Hofstra’s goalkeeper Rebecca Wachsbereger in the 30th minute of play. The ball than bounced off the left corner post and went out of bounds.
Panther defense faced 15 shots on the day with goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) registering four saves.
The Panthers begin Big East/Mid-Atlantic divisional play when they visit Georgetown Friday at 3.p.m.
