    BALTIMORE, Md.Pittsburgh women’s soccer was shutout Sunday against University of Maryland-
    Baltimore County in the non-league contest.  The Panthers record moves to 4-6-1, overall, and 
    1-3-1 in the Big East. 
     
    Both teams went into halftime scoreless, but Pittsburgh had several opportunities to score. 
    The best chance came during a breakaway by freshman Janean Gardner, but  her close-range 
    shot was stopped by UMBC’s keeper Robin Babaris.
     

    In the 69th minute UMBC’s J.J. Young was awarded and converted on a penalty kick putting 
    UMBC ahead 1-0.
     
    The Panther offense continued attacking, outshooting the Retrievers, 6-3, in the second 
    stanza, but UMBC held on for the 1-0 win.
     

    Pittsburgh will be in action again on Friday, October 15th at St. John’s (NY) and will return

    to Founder’s Field on Tuesday, October 19th against St. Francis (PA) at 7 p.m.
