The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team continues conference play with a pair of Big East matches this weekend.
The Panthers travel to Storrs, Conn. to take on the Connecticut Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m. and to Providence, R.I. to take on the Friars on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Pitt is 2-10-0 all-time versus Connecticut. The Panthers won last season against the Huskies, 1-0. UConn’s last win was a 2-1 score, on October 10, 2008.
Pitt is 6-3-2 against the Providence Friars. The Panthers won the last contest, 2-0. Providence is 1-2 in their past three matches, all in the Big East.
Pitt enters this weekend’s contests with an overall record of 2-10-4 and a conference mark of 1-5-2. The Panthers are coming off a dominating 6-1 win over St.John’s on Sunday at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
The Panthers’ six goals scored on Sunday against St. John’s were the most by Pitt in coach Sue-Moy Chin’s nine seasons with the program. The Panthers hadn’t scored six times in a match since Oct. 22, 1998, in a 6-3 win over Robert Morris.
Junior forward Ashley Cuba broke the school’s all-time goals records in the win over the Red Storm. Her hat-trick gave her 21 goals for her career. She was selected to the Big East Women’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll for her performance.
