PITTSBURGH Following a strong offensive showing from the Pitt women’s soccer team this weekend, junior Ashley Habbel was named to the Big East Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 20. Pitt (6-10-1, 3-5-1) concluded its regular season home schedule with two consecutive overtime matches, resulting in a win and a tie.  The Panthers played to a scoreless 0-0 draw against Villanova and upset No. 19 ranked Georgetown, 2-1, in a pair of games at Founders Field.

Habbel tallied 197 minutes of playing time in her two starts and totaled eight shots and five shots on goal.  The forward cemented a stellar weekend of offensive production by registering the game-winning goal against Georgetown on Oct. 19. With just four seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Habbel collected a crossing pass from Katelyn Ruhe and fired into the net’s lower left corner. The score marked Habbel’s seventh career game winner and second game-winning goal this season.

The goal was Habbel’s fifth this year and 16th in her three-year career. With the score, Habbel now needs three more goals to set the school's career scoring record and 10 points to top Pitt’s all-time career point leader board. Cande Ruiz holds both records after she recorded 18 goals and 47 points from 1998-2001.
