MORGANTOWN, W.Va.-Junior defender Jacqueline Reuter (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored her first career goal as the University of Pittsburgh dropped a 2-1 decision to Big East rival and No. 7 ranked West Virginia Thursday evening at Mountaineer Soccer Complex. The Panthers fall to 5-9-2 (1-3-1), while the Mountaineers improve to 14-2-1 (4-1-1).
West Virginia grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the first half when Jenn Lewis’s shot was deflected by sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and Laura Kane tapped the ball in for the Mountaineers. Pelusi finished the day with eight saves.
Big East leading striker Chrissie Abbott took a pass from Ashley Weimer and booted the ball that barely got past Pelusi for the Mountaineers second score of the evening at the 41:03 mark.
The momentum began to swing to the Panthers way midway through the second half when senior forward Netta Agredano (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson Magnet) took a corner kick that resulted in the Panther score. Agredano’s kick bounced off of Mountaineer goalkeeper Lana Bannerman and Reuter tapped the rebound in for the score. This was Reuter’s third point of the season.
Pittsburgh will travel to Villanova Sunday for their final regular season game. Game time for this pivotal Big East Mid-Atlantic match is set for 11 a.m.
