Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Villanova

Pittsburgh concludes season with a 5-10-2 record.

    VILLANOVA, Pa.-The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team fell to Villanova 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Villanova Soccer Complex.  The match marked the Panthers' final contest of the 2003 season and they finish 5-10-2 (1-4-1 in Mid-Atlantic play).  With the win, the Wildcats advance to the Big East Conference Championship with a record of 12-5-1 (3-2-1).

     

    Momentum swung the Wildcats way in the first half as they took a quick 1-0 lead.  Laura Johnson scored at the 19:19 mark off of a cross pass from Jenessa Jeltema.  Jetlema registered her second assist of the day as she fed the ball to Candice MacDonald for the score. Villanova outshot Pittsburgh in the first half 10-2.

     

    The Panther offense got back on track in the second half and outshot the Wildcats 11-9, but could not capitalize.  With just a few seconds remaining in the game Jennifer DeLaHoz (Amawalk, N.Y./Somers) took a shot that hit the post. Carli Brill (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) snagged the rebound and fired a shot that was nearly blocked by goalkeeper Chrissy Dolan.  Dolan recorded 11 shutouts in 18 games this season.

     

    Pittsburgh goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) registered six saves on the day.
