GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team concluded its spring break trip with an 11-0 loss to No. 13/14 James Madison Saturday morning at ECU Softball Field in Greenville, N.C.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 14-8 on the season and are 0-3 in conference play. The ranked Dukes improved to 20-3 in 2017.
Struggling at the plate, Pitt tallied just two hits in the game. Junior McKayla Taylor tallied the first in the opening inning, while freshman pinch hitter Kaitlyn Kruger hit a single to second in the final frame.
In the circle, freshman Brittany Knight earned the loss moving to 8-3 on the season. Knight struck out three but gave up 12 hits and 10 runs, while walking five. Sophomore Sarah Dawson also saw time, tossing the final four batters of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Four hits and a pair of walks led to a four-run inning in the opening frame for JMU. The Dukes started with back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases. A RBI-single to left scored the first run, while a sac fly in the next at-bat tallied the second. The final two runs came on a triple to right center.
The Dukes made it 5-0 in the top of the third after a solo home run and 6-0 on consecutive doubles in the fourth.
JMU added five in the final inning of play on four hits, including two home runs.
