April 2, 2017No. 1 Florida State Outlasts Pitt 5-0 in Series Finale
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team was swept by Florida State as the Panthers dropped the series finale 5-0 to the Seminoles, Sunday, April 2 at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla.
Pitt moves to 17-16 overall and 1-10 in ACC play, while Florida State sits at 35-1-1 on the year and holds an unblemished 15-0 in conference action.
Offensively, the Panthers saw just three baserunners all game. Senior Kaitlin Manuel singled in the first, while junior Erin Hershman doubled in the second and walked in the fifth.
In the circle, junior Kayla Harris went the distance for the Panthers, giving up five runs on six hits, while walking four and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After two scoreless innings of play, Florida State took the lead on a two-run long ball by Jessica Warren. Warren brought around Alex Powers on the hit after she was walked in the previous at-bat.
Harris held FSU scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings but the Seminoles second home run of the day gave FSU a 5-0 lead in the sixth as Ellie Cooper hit a three-run shot over the right field wall.
Pitt will visit Saint Francis (Pa.) Wednesday, April 5 for a single game at 4 p.m. before starting a 10-game homestand that features ACC series with Virginia Tech, Syracuse and NC State, along with a contest against Ohio State.
