PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman outfielder Tori Nirschl has earned her first career Big East Weekly Honor Roll recognition for helping the Pitt softball team (9-6) to a 4-1 record at the ESPN Citrus Classic this past weekend at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
Nirschl batted an impressive .562 (9-for-16) and scored nine runs while carrying an on base percentage of .632 and a slugging percentage of 1.000. The Carlsbad, Calif. native recorded four extra base hits on two doubles, one triple and one home run.
Through the first three weeks of the season, the Pitt leadoff batter is tops on the team in at bats (51), hits (18), runs (17) triples (2) and is tied for the team-high in home runs (3). She also has the second highest batting average at .353. In conference, she ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.667) and third in runs scored (17).
Nirschl is the second Panther to receive Big East honors this season as Holly Stevens was award Honor Roll last weekend for her play at the Hilltopper Classic.
Winners of four in a row, Pitt looks to carry its momentum into the desert this coming weekend when the Panthers head to the Diamond Devil Classic hosted by No. 3 Arizona State. Along with playing the host Sun Devils, Pitt will also face off with New Mexico State and UC Davis.
