SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Pittsburgh softball team travels to South Bend this weekend to take on former Big East rival Notre Dame as the two teams meet for the first time in the ACC at Maggie Cook Stadium.
Saturday’s doubleheader action will begin at Noon, as will the series finale on Sunday. Pitt enters the weekend at 8-13 overall and 0-5 in the ACC, while No. 25 Notre Dame is 19-7 overall and 3-3 in the ACC.
SEVILLA LEADING THE WAY IN ACC:
After going 3-for-6 in the doubleheader against North Carolina last weekend, redshirt sophomore Maggie Sevilla is now batting a team-high .462 in ACC action. All three of her hits went for doubles and she now has a team-best five doubles. She is also leading the team with 12 runs batted in.
THEA RANKING 10th IN THE ACC:
With a team-best .368 overall batting average, Carly Thea ranks 10th in the ACC in that category. The junior centerfielder has gone 21-for-57 at the plate with three homers and 11 RBI this season. She has also crossed the plate seven times.
SCOUTING NOTRE DAME:
Notre Dame is led by reigning Big East Player of the Year Laura Winter. The senior pitcher/hitter is off to another terrific start this season as she is 13-3 in the circle with a 1.87 ERA and also carries a .313 batting average at the plate. As a team, Notre Dame has eight players who bat over .300, led by Jenna Simon at .403.
