PITTSBURGH – Coming down the stretch run of the regular-season, the University of Pittsburgh Softball team (13-19, 4-9 ACC) welcomes the Syracuse Orange (15-18, 6-7 ACC) to Vartabedian Field for a three game set.
Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m., while Sunday’s series finale will begin at Noon. Fans can watch the game through www.pittsburghpanthers.com and can also follow live stats by clicking here.
Junior Carly Thea continues to be the most productive and consistent player for the Panthers. Thea currently ranks third in the ACC in both batting average (.393) and on base percentage (.485), while her slugging percentage is sixth highest (667). Thea is having a breakout season and she is currently riding a career-best nine game hitting streak.
This three game series against the Orange begins an eight game home stand for the Panthers. After the Orange, Pitt will host No. 8/7 Florida State on Wednesday, April 16, and will then welcome Georgia Tech that following weekend. These eight games are the final home games of the season for the Panthers.
Syracuse is led by senior slugger Jasmine Watson who carries a .311 batting average and has 10 home runs and 27 RBI thus far. Watson is one of five Cuse players who bat above .300, led by Nicole Lundstorm at .378. Pitcher Sydney O’Hara is 11-7 in the circle with a 3.50 ERA.
There will be plenty of activities this weekend at Vartabedian Field, including ‘Dress Like a Panther’ photo station on Saturday, as well as autographs and run the bases on both Saturday and Sunday.
