PITTSBURGH – In its final home series of the 2014 campaign, the University of Pittsburgh softball team is set to host Georgia Tech this weekend at Vartabedian Field. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. while the series finale on Sunday is set for Noon.
The Panthers enter the weekend series with an overall record of 13-24 and a mark 4-14 in ACC play. Georgia Tech is 21-18 and 10-12 in conference. The Panthers will need to win a minimum of four games in their final six ACC games and hope that Boston College loses its remaining four series for a chance to participate in the ACC Tournament.
Carly Thea has reached base safely in the past 15 games, which is the longest streak of her career and the longest of any player on the team this season. Thea continues to have the best season of her career as she leads the team in batting average (.382), hits (31), runs (23), slugging (.657) and on base percentage (.466).
Georgia Tech boasts six players who bat over .300, led by Ashley Thomas who carries a .388 batting average. Alysha Rudnik is leading the team in home runs and RBI with nine and 40, respectively. Her RBI production ranks fourth in conference while her home run total is tied for seventh.
