PITTSBURGH--University of Pittsburgh softball head coach Holly Aprile has announced the dates for two upcoming summer camps. The camps will take place in July at Vartabedian Field at the Petersen Sports Complex.
The first three-day session will be held July 9-11. Players and coaches will teach participants different techniques that will help them become an offensive and defensive threat on the softball field. The camp is open to girls entering grades 5-8.
The second camp will take place July 16-18 and is available for girls entering grades 9-12. Attendees will be able to concentrate on their specific defensive positions as well as learning about hitting and base running. Pitt coaches and players will offer in-depth instruction on every position.
The camps will feature:
Mechanics and fundamentals of hitting including mental approach.
Techniques of short game including bunting and slapping.
Base running including: leads, returns, sliding and stealing.
Defensive fundamentals including proper throwing form, fielding groundballs and catching fly balls.
Fun games that incorporate softball skills.
