PITTSBURGH - Head softball coach Holly Aprile and her staff have announced dates for their 2014 Summer Camps to be held at Vartabedian Field, located at the Petersen Sports Complex on Pitt's Oakland campus.
The first camp is the High School Camp for girls, grades 9-12, held June 16-17. Camp activities will run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., and cover all aspects of softball, including pitching, catching, hitting, fielding and base running.
The second camp offered is a general skills camp open to girls entering grades 5-8. This camp will run from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on July 14-15.
Pitt Softball summer camps will allow participants to learn what it takes to be an offensive and defensive threat on the softball field. Offensive skill training will include: mechanics of hitting, bunting and the basics of base running. Campers can expect defensive skill practice in: bunt coverage, double plays, fly balls and ground balls for field players, along with blocking and framing for catchers, and fastball mechanics, speed drills and various pitches for aspiring pitchers.
The third and final camp is an Advanced Pitching and Catching Camp. This is offered for girls entering grades 8-12. The camp will run from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18. This specialized camp will focus on the mechanics of pitching and catching, allowing campers to improve both skill and form.
