PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh softball team hosts Big East foe Notre Dame at Vartabedian Field at the Petersen Sports Complex in its regular-season finale this weekend. Action begins with a noon doubleheader on Saturday, May 5 and concludes on Sunday, May 6 with a single contest at noon.
All three games will be streamed live at www.pittsburghpanthers.com. Saturday’s doubleheader will also be replayed on Sunday on Comcast channels 188 or 210 at 11 a.m. and then again at 4 p.m.
The Panthers will honor their eight seniors – Yvette Bravo, Kristen Cheesebrew, Niki Cognigni, Ciera Damon, Keli Gaynor, Amanda Heitmeier, Kelly Hmiel and Jessica Rhodunda – prior to first pitch on Sunday. This class of seniors has combined to win 112 games to-date, including 40 in Big East play. They have also recorded three consecutive winning seasons and opened Vartabedian Field with a 2-1 victory over Penn State last year.

The Panthers (26-23, 8-11 Big East) are paced by freshman Savannah King with a 1.58 ERA and a single-season record 19 wins. She has struck out 188 batters, while tossing 213.1 innings on the year.
At the plate, Cognigni boasts a .300 batting average in league play. Overall, junior Holly Stevens has smacked a team-leading nine home runs and scored 29 runs. Stevens has also collected 25 RBI.
Notre Dame (33-13, 13-3 Big East) enters the weekend on a 12-game win streak, including eight straight in Big East action. The squad is led by Amy Buntin with a .362 batting average, 49 RBI and 36 runs scored. On the mound, Laura Winter holds a 1.97 era with a 23-8 record.
