PITTSBURGH-After falling to Notre Dame in a dual meet earlier in the day, the women's swimming and diving team responded by finishing second out of seven teams in the Notre Dame relays on Fri., Oct. 5.

Pittsburgh scored 166 points in the relay meet, sixty behind first-place Notre Dame. The Panthers defeated five teams, including Illinois State (142), Washington University (102), Valparaiso (96), Marquette (58) and St. Mary's College (54).

There were 12 events in the meet, with 11 being swimming relays and the last a 3-meter diving teammate event. The Panthers earned the top time in the 400-yard medley relay with Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit), Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Katie Nicholson (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) and Karen Thibodeau (Waterloo, Ontario/Bluevale Collegiate) combining to finish in 3:57/57. The Panthers topped second-place Illinois State by over nine seconds.

The diving tandem of Jen O'Brien (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) and Moreen O'Brien (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) won the 3-meter diving event with a combined score of 224.90 points.

The Panthers also had nine-second place finishes and would have had 10 if not for a disqualification in the 400 freestyle relay.
