PITTSBURGH-With Katie Hunter and Amanda Lyle back in the pool, the Gold team easily defeated the Blue team, 133-95, in the annual Blue-Gold meet on Oct. 12.

Hunter and Lyle were standout swimmers for the Panthers from 1997-2001 and returned for the event which was open to alumni on Homecoming weekend. Lyle and Hunter teamed up to help the Gold win the 200 Medley Relay. The two graduates, along with Lindsay Weaverling (Lansing, Kan./Leavenworth), Katie Nicholson (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) and Julia Carolan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) won the event in a time of 1:52.76. That time was just 0.57 seconds faster than the Blue team of Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott), Maryann Spindler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic), Kelli Tielking (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Lacey Hlavka (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield).

Hunter also competed in the 100-yard freestyle and won the event in a time of 52.08, more than two seconds better than Livingstone. Other winners for the Gold team were Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) in the 200 Free (1:56.48) and 100 Breast (1:07.57), Weaverling in the 50 Free (24.76)and Karen Thibodeau (Waterloo, Ontario/Bluevale Collegiate) in the 200 IM (2:12.63), as well as victories in the 200 and 500 freestyle relays.

The Blue team was led by sophomore diver Jen O'Brien (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills), who won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. The other winners for the Blue team were Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace) in the 500 Free (5:08.28), Kristina DeWitt (Houston, Texas/Stratford) in the 100 Fly (58.89) and Tielking in the 100 Back (1:05.17).

Even head coach Marian Cassidy Keen got into the action by competing on an alumni team in the 500 crescendo relay.

The Panthers are 0-1 on the season after a loss to Notre Dame on Oct. 5 and will return to Trees Pool to host St. Bonaventure on Oct. 26.
