PITTSBURGH- For the second time in as many days, a Pittsburgh women's swimmer broke a school record. On Sunday evening, it was Carolyne Savini in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.85, breaking the mark set by Beth Grube in 1997.

Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) had close competition from Sarah Lo of Missouri, but broke away in the last 25 yards.

The victory couldn't propel the Panthers into first place as visiting Missouri topped the Panthers as well as Miami (Fla.) and Ohio State with 1,493 points. The Panthers had 966, followed by the Hurricanes with 807 and the Buckeyes with 481.

In other Sunday night finals action, Pittsburgh junior Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace) swam past the field in the 1650 freestyle. The race, close to a mile in length, was won by Colley in a time of 17:02.92, more than 10 seconds faster than Ohio State's Stephanie Raezer. Missouri had the third through fifth place finishers.

The Tigers also dominated the 100 freestyle with four of the top eight finishers, including Andrea Nigh's 51.09, which was the best time in the event. The top Panther finisher was Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott) in fourth place, just 1.57 seconds behind Nigh.

Mariona Costa, the second-place finisher in the 100 breast, battled back to win the 200 breast on Sunday evening over teammate Tiffany Bohon. Costa's time of 2:18.79 was almost two seconds faster than Bohon's and 2.68 seconds faster than fourth-place Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), who won the 100 breast in a school-record time on Saturday afternoon.

Rebecca Wolfe got another victory for the Tigers in the 200 butterfly, missing the two-minute mark by 0.66 seconds. Becca Dawson of Missouri finished in second with a time of 2:03.05 and the Panthers' Rubi Cisneros (Monterrey, Mexico/Monterrey) (2:08.35) was in fourth place.

Miami got its only victory of the evening in the platform diving competition from sophomore Melanie Rinaldi. Rinaldi had 436.30 points and defeated four Tigers and Moreen O'Brien (Springfield, Ill./Springfield).

In the final event of the evening, the 400 freestyle relay, Missouri scored yet another 40 points with a win from its 'A' team consisting of Nigh, Ellen Cross, Lindsay Palbykin and Tara Brooks. Pittsburgh finished in second with Savini, Lindsay Weaverling (Leavenworth, Kan./Leavenworth), Redman and Livingstone swimming it in 3:29.74.

The Panthers are off until Jan. 5, 2002, when they host Harvard at Trees Pool.
