SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Despite a singles victory on court six and a doubles win on court three, the University of Pittsburgh tennis team (3-4) was defeated by Syracuse University 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Drumlins Tennis Center.
The Orange seized the doubles point with wins in first and second doubles, but the tandem of Kimmy Borza and Gabrielle Catanzariti ran their doubles record to 7-0 with an 8-6 victory on court three against Jimena Wu and Sophia Dzulynsky.
Molly Wickman would be the only Panther to record a singles victory as she defeated Dzulynsky on court six in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Amanda Wickman suffered her first singles loss of the season as she dropped a hard fought three set match against Komal Safdar in fourth singles, 6-4, 2-6, 2-6. The four other matches (Courts one, two, three and five) were straight set decisions in favor of SU.
The Panthers open a four match home stand beginning next Saturday with Villanova. First serve at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center is set for Noon EST.
