Women's Tennis Sweeps Bonnies

OLEAN, NY.- The Pitt women's tennis team swept St. Bonaventure, 9-0, this past Friday and improved its record to 3-1 on the year. The Panthers captured all three doubles matches as well as six singles matches.

 

Freshman Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area H.S.) and sophomore Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) combined to earn the first doubles victory of the day, giving up only one point in the process. Borza and Friedman earned an 8-1 verdict over St. Bonaventure's Anna Perevenzetseva and Ana Delgado.

 

In the final doubles match-up of the day, Pitt senior co-captains Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) and Becky Emmers (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) did not give up a single point to the Bonnies' Jasmine Jaysingh and Kathleen Riley, coming away with an 8-0 victory.


 

 

 

The Panthers only needed two sets per singles match to claim all six victories.

 

Borza met Perevenzetseva once again as the singles' competition got under way. She earned her second win of the day, giving up only two points during the singles match and winning by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

 

Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) concluded Pitt's sweep with a shut-out victory of her own. Smith defeated the Bonnies' Kathleen Riley 6-0, 6-0 to close out the day.
