PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team (4-5) dropped a 4-3 decision to California (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
Despite a doubles victory from Amanda Wickman and Molly Wickman, the Vulcans (4-3) won the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The duo of Kimmy Borza and Gabrielle Catanzariti suffered their first defeat of the season with an 8-4 loss in second doubles.
In singles, spots four, five and six for Pitt were all victorious, but Cal won on the first three courts to earn the match victory.
Borza was the first to win as her opponent, Jade Pondicas, retired in the first set with Borza ahead 2-0 in fourth singles. Fifth singles saw Amanda Wickman top Elizabeth Guy by the score of 6-2, 6-3, while Karma Parbhu also won in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Maxime Colen in sixth singles.
The Panthers continue their home-stand with a pair of matches next weekend. Pitt will host Cornell on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Rutgers on Sunday at 2 p.m.
