PROVIDENCE, R.I.-The University of Pittsburgh women's tennis team collected its fifth Big East win of the season, as the Panthers earned a 6-1 victory over Providence Saturday evening.
Pitt (10-7, 5-4 Big East) won the doubles point, capturing wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Both teams recorded 8-1 pro sets. Pitt's pairing of sophomores Jocelyn Lu and Taylor Washington improved to 11-8, while freshmen Amanda Wickman and Molly Wickman are now 16-4.
"Everyone contributed to today's victory against a much improved Providence squad," Pitt head coach George Dieffenbach said.
Five Panthers recorded straight-set wins in singles action, including junior Gabrielle Catanzariti, who ended a three-match skid with a pair of 6-4 scores.
Washington posted her 20th singles win in the No. 3 spot, while sophomore Kimmy Borza captured her seventh consecutive victory in the No. 6 slot.
Up next, the Panthers travel to Rutgers for a noon contest on Saturday, April 14.
"Today's victory gave our team confidence heading into tomorrow's regular-season finale against a competitive Rutgers team," Dieffenbach said.
