PISCATAWAY, N.J.— Sophomore Taylor Washington recorded her 21st singles win of the year, however, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to Rutgers in its regular-season finale on Saturday.
“The Panthers battled till the last ball was hit,” Pitt head coach George Dieffenbach said. “Congrats to Taylor on achieving her 21st singles win today.”
Washington captured her sixth-consecutive victory in No. 3 singles for Pitt (10-8, 5-5 Big East). She improved to 21-7 on the year.
The Panthers will now await their Big East Tournament seeding. The 2012 conference championship begins on Thursday, April 19.
“We will learn from our successes this season and look forward to competing at our best during the Big East Championship in Tampa, Fla. next week,” Dieffenbach added.
